About Acreichthys tomentosus (Linnaeus, 1758)

This species, Acreichthys tomentosus (Linnaeus, 1758), has an average body length between 3.8 and 8.9 cm (1.5 and 3.5 inches). It has between 27 and 30 anal spines, and between 26 and 29 soft anal rays. This species is distributed in waters surrounding Sri Lanka, Ishigaki Island, the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, Queensland, New Caledonia, and Tonga. It lives in shallow coral reefs, and prefers reef areas that contain seagrass. It favors habitats with temperatures between 27.6 and 29 °C (81.7 and 84.2 °F), dissolved oxygen concentrations between 4.51 and 4.59 mL/L (4510 and 4590 ppm), and depths between 2 and 15 m (6.6 and 49.2 ft).
