About Acossus centerensis Lintner, 1877

Acossus centerensis, commonly known as the poplar carpenterworm, is a moth that belongs to the family Cossidae. This species is distributed across North America. In the United States, its range extends from New Jersey westward to Illinois and North Dakota. In Canada, it occurs from Quebec and Ontario west to British Columbia. Adult males have a wingspan measuring 40 to 50 mm, while adult females have a larger wingspan of 50 to 64 mm. The larvae of Acossus centerensis feed on species in the Populus genus. They feed primarily on Populus tremuloides, and also consume balsam poplars.
