About Acmispon brachycarpus (Benth.) D.D.Sokoloff
Acmispon brachycarpus, previously classified as Lotus humistratus, is a legume species commonly called foothill deervetch. It is native to western North America, ranging from Idaho to Texas and into northern Mexico, and grows in many different habitat types. This species is an annual herb that grows upright in a spreading growth habit, or takes on a clumpy or matted form. Its stems are lined with leaves; each leaf typically consists of four hairy, somewhat fleshy leaflets, each up to around 1 centimeter long. Solitary yellow pea-shaped flowers grow from the leaf axils. Its fruit is a legume pod that varies in both size and shape.
