This species is native to North America, and confirmed records of it exist from the following locations: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Ontario, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The wingspan of adult Acleris maculidorsana ranges from 15 to 18 millimeters. Adult moths have been observed in flight during almost every month of the year. The larvae of this species feed on plants from multiple genera and species, including Chamaedaphne calyculata, Hypericum species (specifically including Hypericum perforatum), Kalmia species, and Vaccinium species.
