About Aciphylla ferox W.R.B.Oliv.

Aciphylla ferox W.R.B.Oliv. is a large perennial herb that forms stout tussocks that reach up to 1 metre (3 feet 3 inches) in height. Individuals can grow either as single standalone plants or in small groups. Its leaves grow up to 40 centimetres (16 inches) long. Male plants produce stout flowering stems that bear yellow flowers, which bloom from November through to January or February. Fruiting occurs from January to March. This species is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand, where it occurs between the regions of Nelson and North Canterbury. It grows in low alpine areas, and is common in subalpine scrub, mixed snow tussock and scrub areas, grasslands, and herbfields.
