About Acilius mediatus (Say, 1823)
Acilius mediatus is a species of predaceous diving beetle that belongs to the family Dytiscidae. This species is found in North America. It inhabits creeks, ponds, ditches, and occasionally silt-laden streams. It is most easily observed during spring and summer. Its prey consists of other aquatic arthropods that it is able to overpower. Males of this species have expanded front feet that bear clumps of hairs, which they use to grip females during mating.
