About Aciagrion approximans (Selys, 1876)

Aciagrion approximans is a small, slim, slender damselfly colored violet and black. Its thorax is black, with violet stripes running along its sides. On segments 2 through 7 of its abdomen, the dorsal side is black, and the ventral half is violet. Segments 8 and 9 are solid violet with no markings. The dorsal side of segment 10 is black. In the subspecies A. a. krishna, the lower half of segment 8 has a black marking. Females are similar in appearance to males, but have paler overall coloration. In females, segments 8 and 9 are black, and the dorsal side of segment 10 is blue. This species breeds in ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams.
