About Achyra rantalis Guenée, 1854
Achyra rantalis, commonly known as the garden webworm, is a moth species in the family Crambidae that was first described by Achille Guenée in 1854. This species is found across North America, with confirmed records ranging from Maine to southern Quebec and Ontario in the north, extending south to Florida and Mexico. It has also been documented in Iowa, Colorado, California, and the West Indies. It inhabits fields and gardens. Adults have a wingspan of 17 to 23 millimetres, which equals 0.67 to 0.91 inches. In southern parts of its range, this species can produce up to four generations each year. The larvae of Achyra rantalis feed on the leaves of a variety of low-growing plants, including alfalfa, beans, clover, corn, cotton, peas, and strawberries.
