Achimenes erecta (Lam.) H.P.Fuchs has the synonym Achimenes coccinea, and is commonly called Cupid's bower, nut orchid, and magic flower. Despite its species epithet 'erecta', this is a trailing achimenes. It bears bright red flowers and dark green foliage. Its reddish green stem holds clusters of hairy, heart-shaped leaves. Individual flowers only last a few days, but new flowers are produced continuously from June through October.
