About Acharia hyperoche

The scientific name of this species is Acharia hyperoche. The caterpillar of Acharia hyperoche hides on the underside of the palm leaves it feeds on, and its green coloration helps it blend into its surroundings. Its body bears fleshy protuberances that hold sharp spines. If you brush against these spines, you will develop a red itchy rash and experience pain. Many other species in the same family, Limacodidae, have similar defensive spines for protection. Acharia hyperoche is most commonly encountered between the months of September and February, with a sudden population spike in June. The species is most commonly found in Costa Rica, Colombia, Panama, and Ecuador.
