About Acer nigrum F.Michx.

This species, known as black maple, has the scientific name Acer nigrum F.Michx. Mature black maple trees reach a height between 21 and 34 meters, equal to 69 to 112 feet. The geographic range of Acer nigrum is slightly smaller than that of sugar maple (Acer saccharum). Its range covers most of the Midwestern United States, parts of the Eastern United States, and southern Ontario in southeastern Canada. Black maple is used the same way as Acer saccharum: it is harvested for timber classified as hard maple, planted for landscaping, and tapped for maple syrup production.
