About Accanthopus velikensis (Piller & Mitterpacher, 1783)

The species Accanthopus velikensis, first described by Piller & Mitterpacher in 1783, reaches an adult body length of 9โ€“10 millimetres, which equals 0.35โ€“0.39 inches. A very distinctive trait of this species is a tooth located on the inner edge of its front femora; this feature explains the term dentipes in its synonym Enoplopus dentipes. Adult individuals of this beetle species live under the bark of trees and inside old stumps. This species is distributed across Europe, where it is mainly found in Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Italy, Greece, Serbia, and Romania.
