About Acanthurus gahhm (Forsskål, 1775)

Acanthurus gahhm (Forsskål, 1775) is a species of surgeonfish. This fish can grow up to 50 centimeters long. It has an oval, laterally compressed body shape. Like other surgeonfishes, it swims using its pectoral fins. Its caudal fin is crescent-shaped, and its mouth is small and pointed. Its body ranges in color from black to dark brown, with a white ring around the base of the tail, a yellow stripe around the eyes, and yellow tips on its pectoral fins. Acanthurus gahhm is endemic to the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in the north-western Indian Ocean; records of this species found farther east are most likely misidentifications of A. nigricauda. This species is kept in aquaria and harvested for human consumption.
