About Acanthoscurria geniculata (C.L.Koch, 1841)

The body and legs of the Brazilian whiteknee tarantula (Acanthocephala geniculata) are deep brown, often with some pink or orange hairs; occasionally, the legs may be slightly lighter in color. This base coloration contrasts with the bright white bands on the species' legs, which are generally considered the main reason for its perceived beauty. Males of this species are smaller and have less intense coloration than females. Acanthoscurria geniculata is a larger-than-average tarantula species, with a maximum body length of up to 9 centimeters. It is fast-growing; females typically take around 3–4 years to reach a mature leg span of 8.5 inches. A. geniculata is native to the Amazon basin of northern Brazil. These tarantulas live in a tropical, wet climate that has abundant rainfall with little to no dry season.
