Acanthopleura gemmata is a large species of chiton that reaches approximately 7 centimeters (3 inches) in length. It has an oval-shaped body, with dimpled margins on its plates, a brown girdle that surrounds eight overlapping plates, long calcareous spicules, and dark bands. This chiton has a distribution across the Indo-Pacific region. It inhabits the littoral zone of coral reefs, where it lives on rocks and cliffs.
