About Acanthodoris nanaimoensis O'Donoghue, 1921

Acanthodoris nanaimoensis, commonly known as the Nanaimo horned dorid, is a species of dorid nudibranch. It is a shell-less marine gastropod mollusc that belongs to the family Acanthodorididae.

This species was first described from Jesse Island, located in the lagoon near Hammond's Bay, Nanaimo, British Columbia. American malacologist Frank Mace MacFarland later described the same species collected from Moss Beach, Montara Point, San Mateo County, California, under the different name Acanthodoris columbina. It has been reported ranging from Halibut Point, Baranof Island, Alaska, south to Purisima Point, Santa Barbara, California. Specimens collected from Pillar Point, San Mateo County, California, and Puget Sound, Kitsap County, Washington, have been sequenced for the 16S ribosomal RNA, Histone H3 and CO1 genes.
