About Acanthiza lineata Gould, 1838

The scientific name of the striated thornbill is Acanthiza lineata Gould, 1838. Adult striated thornbills measure 9–10 centimetres (3.5–3.9 inches) in length and weigh approximately 7 grams (0.25 ounces). This species has a russet or orange-brown crown marked with cream streaks, dull yellow-olive upperparts, olive-grey flanks, and cream underparts that are heavily streaked with black. The brown thornbill (A. pusilla) is similar in appearance to the striated thornbill, but it lacks the white-streaked orange-brown cap and inhabits shrubs.
