About Acanthiza iredalei Mathews, 1911

This species, commonly known as the thornbill, has a body length ranging from 9 to 10 centimeters. Its back color varies from olive-grey to a darker shade of olive-brown. The base of its tail is olive-yellow, while its underbelly is a uniform smooth cream color. It also has a dark bill and pale eyes. Different subspecies of this thornbill have distinct ranges. The subspecies Acanthiza iredalei iredalei has six separate, isolated populations across Western Australia, plus a large population located in the state's Carnarvon bioregion. The hedleyi subspecies occurs in southeastern South Australia and western Victoria. The rosinae subspecies is most commonly found in the Gulf St Vincent region of South Australia.
