This species is commonly called the starbellied orbweaver, with the scientific name Acanthepeira stellata (Walckenaer, 1805). Its abdomen is covered in multiple small spikes, which is the feature that gave the species its common name. Like other orb weaver spiders, this species is nocturnal. It builds vertical orb webs to capture flying insect prey. For reproduction, female Acanthepeira stellata produce egg clutches that hold an average of approximately 574 eggs. Individual eggs have an average diameter of about 1.04 mm, and each egg weighs an average of around 0.55 mg. The average body mass of an adult female of this species is approximately 596.0 mg.
