Acalypha monococca, commonly known as slender threeseed mercury, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. It is native to North America, occurring in the South Central and Midwestern regions of the United States, primarily west of the Mississippi River. Its natural habitat consists of dry, sunny, sandy or rocky areas, including prairies, barrens, and woodlands. Acalypha monococca is an erect annual plant that grows to approximately 40 centimeters tall. It produces flowers from summer through fall. It is closely similar to Acalypha gracilens, which generally has a more easterly distribution than Acalypha monococca. Distinguishing characteristics of Acalypha monococca include its single-seeded fruits, narrower leaves, and smaller stature.
