About Abronia moreletii (Bocourt, 1872)

Abronia moreletii (Bocourt, 1872), commonly called Morelet's alligator lizard and known as escorpión de Morelet in Spanish, is a species of lizard belonging to the subfamily Gerrhonotinae of the family Anguidae. This species is native to Central America, and four subspecies are currently recognized. Its geographic range covers southern Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. The natural habitat of Abronia moreletii is Central American pine-oak forests and cloud forests, found at elevations between 1,450 and 2,530 metres (4,760 and 8,300 ft) above sea level. Reports have described the reproductive mode of Abronia moreletii as both viviparous and ovoviviparous.
