About Abronia lythrochila Smith & Alvarez Del Toro, 1963

Abronia lythrochila can reach a total length including the tail of about 7โ€“11 inches (18โ€“28 cm). Its base body color is greenish-olive, marked with irregular dark blotches. It has spiny horn-like scales on each side of the head, and its lower labials are blood-red, a feature that gives this species its common names. The tail of Abronia lythrochila is prehensile. This species is endemic to the Mexican state of Chiapas. It inhabits montane dry pine-oak forest, occurring at elevations between 2,000 and 3,000 m (6,600โ€“9,800 ft). Abronia lythrochila reproduces via ovoviviparity.
