About Abraxas grossulariata (Linnaeus, 1758)

This moth species, scientifically named Abraxas grossulariata (Linnaeus, 1758), has forewings that measure 18–25 mm in length. Its forewings have a striking pattern with a white base color, six transverse rows of black markings, and pale yellow cross bands that are partially connected to these black stains. One pale yellow cross band sits near the wing base, and a second runs through the central area of the forewing. The hindwings are paler in color than the forewings, and only bear a small number of small dark stains. Abraxas grossulariata is a highly variable species with many distinct forms. Research conducted using this species led to the discovery of sex-linked genetic characteristics.
