About Abelia chinensis R.Br.

Abelia chinensis R.Br. is a compact deciduous shrub that has reddish stems and small, glossy leaves. The leaves turn reddish-brown before autumn. Its flowers are simple in form, funnel-shaped, and white; pink sepals remain on the plant long after flowering finishes. This plant will keep producing flowers throughout the summer as long as it continues growing new tissue over this season. It is one of the most cold-tolerant species in the Abelia genus. It can be found growing wild in south-central China, south-eastern China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Ryukyu Islands. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant for garden use. The cultivar 'China Rose' has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
