About Abaeis salome

Abaeis salome, also known by the synonym Eurema salome and common name the Salome yellow, is a butterfly species belonging to the Pieridae family. This butterfly is distributed across tropical America, ranging northward from Peru. It is an extremely rare migrant to the lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Its typical habitat includes forest openings, forest edges, and roadcuts. The wingspan of this species measures 47–57 mm, which is 1.9–2.2 inches. In southern Texas, adult butterflies are active on the wing from August to September, while adults are active year round in the tropics. Adult Salome yellows feed on flower nectar from a wide variety of flowering plants. The species' larvae feed on plants from Diphysa species.
